What is the registration information?

Registration data tells the story of all Finnish vehicles, as vehicles and trailers in Finland must be registered. Registration is the responsibility of the owner and the holder of the vehicle. The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom, formerly Trafi) is responsible for registering cars and other vehicles.

Off-road vehicles (excluding snowmobiles) or vehicles used exclusively in areas isolated from traffic do not need to be registered. Even if a vehicle does not need to be registered, it may still need to be insured in certain circumstances. You should check this with your insurance company.

Vehicle registrations are carried out by vehicle inspection offices, insurance companies, car dealers and finance companies.
